Despite different social, economic, and political contexts, there are similarities linking China’s rural-to-urban migrants and undocumented immigrants in the United States. This research focuses on the factors that allocate different sets of housing opportunities to migrants from those available to local residents. It shows that exclusionary practices, either institutionally based or market based, shape their housing choices, mobility patterns, and living arrangements in similar ways.
