Ping Fu is an Associate Professor and Head of Library Technology Services in the Brooks Library at Central Washington University (CWU) where he has been a faculty member since 2011.Reporting to the Dean of the Library, Ping is responsible for the overall administration of the Systems department and the oversight of the division’s three constituent departments: Collection Development, Cataloging and Serials/Electronic Resources. Ping received his Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS, 2003) and M.A. in East Asian Studies (2001) from McGill University, Canada, M.A. in Computer Science (1992) from University of Shanghai, and B.A in Computer Science (1985) from Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi’an. Prior to joining the CWU Library, Ping worked as a Systems Librarian at Singapore Management University Library (2009-2011) and Yale University Library (2007-2009). Before moving to academia, Ping had extensive experience in software and technology industry. He worked as a Programmer at SirsiDynix Inc. (2003-2007) in Canada and BaoSteel (1985-1994) in China.
His research interests lie in the area of Digital Library (DL), Integrated Library Systems (ILS), Institutional Repository (IR), and Digitization and Digital Preservation (DDP). Currently, he chairs the CWU Library Shared ILS Implementation Team and CWU IR ScholarWorks Implementation Team. He has published in the Journal of Information Technologies and Libraries, the flagship journal for American Library Association (ALA)/ Library Information Technology Association (LITA), the Ex Libris Users of North America 2013 Annual Conference (ELUNA), and the Innovative User Group 2012 Annual Conference (IUG).
Ping is a member of ALA /LITA. He serves as a member of LITA Membership Development Committee. He was the chair of LITA/OCLC/LSSI Minority Scholarship Committee (2010-11). He received the Certificate of Recognition issued by ALA/LITA at ALA Annual Conference 2012 in Chicago for his outstanding services at ALA/LITA committees. Ping serves as a CWU Library Representative and a Shared ILS Institutional Lead at the Orbis Cascade Alliance. Ping also serves as a Faculty Representative at the Ethics Advisory Committee and the Academic Technology Advisory Council at CWU.
