Despite being well studied in Economic literature, little is known about inequity aversion in the extreme, and often unique, conditions encountered in disaster relief. In this paper, we provide a basis for research on beneficiary-centric equity in humanitarian logistics. We analyze data from over 400 individuals in Hefei City, China, collected after heavy floods destroyed many livelihoods. Among other factors, our analysis shows scarcity of supply and disaster experience substantially influence beneficiaries¡¯ inequity aversion, highlighting the need for novel approaches to equity and the need to incorporate them into relief planning and execution.
